Jacob Park, a University of Florida student deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, is making strides in fostering community and celebrating Black culture. A Passion for Celebrating Black Culture

Jacob Park, 21, has been a vocal supporter of events that promote unity and celebrate the strength of the Black community. His participation in various campus activities, including those hosted by organizations like the UF Black Student Union, reflects his dedication to fostering inclusivity and promoting cultural awareness.

Park’s involvement extends beyond mere attendance; he has actively contributed to initiatives aimed at showcasing the resilience, creativity, and accomplishments of people of color. “Celebrating Black culture is about acknowledging the struggles and triumphs of a community that has continuously shaped history,” Park said.

The 2024 Florida Invitational Step Show (FISS), a highlight of the campus calendar, showcased the vibrant talents of organizations like Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. The event, renowned for its energetic performances and synchronized routines, brought together Gainesville residents and UF students to honor Black History Month.

While controversies surrounding the event drew attention, Park emphasizes the importance of focusing on its mission: uplifting the community and celebrating achievements. “The energy and support at events like FISS show the power of unity and the impact of celebrating shared heritage,” Park shared.

A Commitment to Resilience

Despite facing personal challenges, Park is committed to demonstrating resilience and personal growth. His experiences have strengthened his resolve to contribute positively to the campus environment. By channeling his passion into supporting cultural events, Park hopes to inspire others to see the value in community building and mutual respect.

“It’s essential to focus on what unites us and helps us grow,” Park remarked. “I want to leave a legacy that shows the strength of community and the importance of cultural celebration.”
