How My Journey at UF Shaped My Passion for Data and Community

When I first stepped onto the sprawling campus of the University of Florida, I carried with me a sense of ambition and curiosity. As a Bachelor of Science candidate in Information Systems at UF’s Warrington College of Business, I had no idea how much this institution would shape not only my professional skills but also my commitment to building inclusive communities.

The University of Florida is renowned for its rigorous academics, vibrant student life, and opportunities to lead. For me, it became the place where I discovered the synergy between technology, analytics, and social impact. My academic journey, highlighted by a 4.0 major GPA, was marked by countless hours of learning everything from SQL queries to Tableau dashboards. But beyond the grades and certifications, UF became the backdrop for a deeper personal transformation.

From Data Analytics to Community Building

One of the most defining moments of my time at UF was my involvement in the founding of the university’s chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). Alongside a dedicated team, I helped establish this organization to foster a sense of belonging and professional growth for underrepresented students in business. Serving as a Student Ambassador and later as a DEI Community Liaison, I witnessed firsthand the power of creating spaces where students could thrive.

My time at UF also allowed me to channel my passion for music and technology into unique projects. For example, I explored how artificial intelligence can transform music production through my YouTube channel, which now boasts over 1,000 subscribers. This endeavor combined my analytical skills with creative storytelling, showcasing the versatility of AI tools in music production. It also served as a testament to the innovative spirit that UF encourages in its students.

Overcoming Challenges with Resilience

Like many students, my journey wasn’t without its challenges. Navigating academic and personal hurdles tested my resilience, but these experiences also strengthened my resolve. I learned to leverage UF’s support systems and resources, which helped me grow as a person and a professional. These moments underscored the importance of perseverance and adaptability—skills that are as vital in life as they are in data analytics.

A Vision for the Future

As I near graduation, my experiences at UF have fueled my aspirations to blend data analytics with community impact. Whether it’s through developing innovative solutions for social issues or creating tools that democratize access to resources, I’m driven by a vision of using technology to make a difference.

I’m particularly proud of how my time at UF has prepared me to pursue roles in data analytics and UI/UX. The rigorous curriculum and extracurricular experiences have equipped me with the skills to excel in a rapidly evolving industry while remaining grounded in my commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

It’s where I discovered my passion for data and my purpose in empowering others.
